The Great British Baking Show and the Iconic Bowls

If you are familiar with the British Bake Off show that has aired for several years, then you’ve probably noticed all the iconic Mason Cash bowls they use on the show. This is where I first learned of these and have since used for my own personal use.

I was so excited to be able to choose for all of you Mason Cash products that I think you will enjoy using as much as I do. At last our shipment arrived and it was an exciting and fun day to unpack these beautiful pieces of cookware to display in our store. As soon as you get an opportunity, come on down to the store and check out the selection for yourself or as a gift.

I know some of you do not like to think about Christmas shopping in March – but I’m telling you if you purchase something like a Mason Cash bowl or cookware – anyone that cooks, bakes, etc. is sure to be pleased with a gift like this. You might as well start now. You’ll probably thank me when it gets closer to Christmas and you pull out the Mason Cash you bought back in March and realize you are almost done with your shopping. 🙂 Oh Happy Days!!

According to food52 –
Mason Cash began in the English village of Church Gresley in the early 1800s, first under the name of Master Potter ‘Bossy’ Mason. In 1901, Thomas Cash purchased the pottery from Bossy, keeping the original name and combining with his own to form Mason Cash & Co.

Church Gresley was one of a collection of English villages at the epicenter of a flourishing pottery industry during the nineteenth century. Along with Swadlincote and Woodville, these villages gave rise to a community of potteries and artisans who were drawn to the region because of the plentiful, naturally occurring coal and clay.

Home cooks everywhere love Mason Cash not only because of the beauty of their products and the long time history of its existence, but the design and functionality. Food52 says, Snuggle the mixing bowl firmly under the crook of your arm and the raised pattern acts as a grip while you whip your batters into submission. No slippery twisting and turning.

The bowls will stand the test of time. But it’s not just bowls Mason Cash produces but other baking and cooking items such as the pie funnels and measuring spoons. Come on in and check it out.

Merry Christmas Y’All!!

Six (6) days before Christmas!!! That’s just crazy. It seems like it was just last week when we decorated our tree. Shoppers continue to frequent our store and the other merchants here in Mt. Pleasant which we so appreciate.

I just love, love, love meeting new people and seeing our regular customers each day. It’s fun to get to know a little about them and their lives. My store is truly my ‘Hallmark World’

Today I had the pleasure of meeting so many new customers both local and from outside of Mt. Pleasant. It has just been a very special and enjoyable day. 🙂 Two of these new customers who were such a pleasure to chat with were Justin and Christina from Nebraska (above). They just got married on Saturday and are on their honeymoon for a few days before heading to Texas. He is a singer/songwriter and spends time in Nashville. They have been searching for places to potentially move to in the future and found Mt. Pleasant and wanted to visit in person.

Christina said she follows us (1824 General Store) on social media and reads my blogs so she keeps up with some of the happenings in and around town and just had to come to our store and check it out.  (So sweet of her) I do hope they end up moving to Mt. Pleasant in the future. He could perform at Hay Long Hall in addition to in and around Nashville.  Thanks you two for stopping in today and for following us on social media all the way from Nebraska. 🙂 It was truly a pleasure meeting you. Congratulations on your marriage and have a great time in Tennessee and Texas.

Everyone, check out Justin’s musical talent and learn more about him on his website. (

Thank you for all who shop with us regularly and for those who have recently visited our store. We appreciate you more than you will know.

Please be sure to check out the local Mt. Pleasant businesses for your gift giving purchases this holiday season and eat breakfast lunch or dinner at one of the local restaurants. Great food and wonderful gift ideas for every age here in town.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and hope you all have a wonderful time with friends and family.

Until next time 🙂 Angela

We Love Our Customers!!

I love having customers visit our store be it new, returning, local or out of State. It’s fun chatting it up with them and  getting to know a little bit about them.

What I have noticed since we’ve been open is there are quite a few people that have lived in Mt. Pleasant for a long time but also  quite a few people that have moved here in the last few years from out of town and outside of Tennessee. Some are retiring here, some moving their families from Murfreesboro, Franklin or Florida…. the list goes on.  People are seeing that Mt. Pleasant housing is still affordable, the area is beautiful, the town is quaint and they want to be a part of it.

One of the fun things about owning a retail business is that I get to meet several people throughout the day both locals and visitors. Let me introduce you to a few of our customers……….

A Local Resident of Mt. Pleasant

Meet Michelle! She’s a frequent shopper in the store. She moved here about the same time that we did.  She is demonstrating that we have red carts in the store to hold all of your goods AND it rolls. This way your hands won’t freeze with frozen food purchases and you have tons of room to put all the things you love in your cart;  much more room than an armload.

An Out of Town Visitor

Meet Mike Wolfe from the show American Pickers that owns Antique Archaeology in Nashville and is invested in Columbia, Tenn as well. He  walked in the store and of course, I immediately recognized him from American Pickers since it is one of my favorite shows. (No, not just since he came in here as you might be thinking)

I never thought I would be the ‘star struck’ kind of person but I was.  I was actually a little nervous yet thrilled he stopped in my store. But I wondered what brought him here.  So I asked him and he said he heard good things about the store from people in Columbia so he wanted to come and check it out. He did some shopping, we chatted a bit and then he went on his merry way. It was a fun experience. So, you never know who might be next. People tell me Luke Bryan has a place in Mt. Pleasant so who knows? He may be my next visitor. 🙂

A Sweet Little Girl

Meet this sweet little girl. I really enjoy having kids in the store and seeing their faces light up looking at the toys or getting a bubble gum from the 1 cent bubble gum machine. While their parents shop, they have fun playing with a wind up car or emoji ball. And this little girl drew a picture and gave it to me.

So whether our customers are small, residents of Mt. Pleasant or visitors from out of town or celebrities – just know I appreciate all of you and thank you for stopping in our store.

Until next time 🙂 Angela
